UNDERSTANDING THOSE WHO MAY HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT “DAYS”

1. One person esteems one day above another (Romans 14:5a)

a) Holy days
b) Seasons (Christmas/ Easter)
c) Different opinions have divided Christendom
i) Eastern Orthodoxy
ii) Roman Catholicism
iii) Protestantism

2. Another esteems every day alike (Romans 14:5b)

a) Some will observe all days alike
b) No special days
i) All days special
ii) All days ordinary

3. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind (Romans 14:5c)

a) Takes much maturity to come to this understanding
b) Much magnanimity too

4. Opposites: With reference to “Days”

a) He who observes the day observes it to the Lord (Romans 14:6a)
b) He who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it (Romans 14:6b)

5. Opposites: With reference to “Food”

a) He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks (Romans 14:6c)
b) And he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks (Romans 14:6d)
