THE BATTLE AGAINST SIN IV

Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? (Roman 6:1)

GOOD PRACTICAL WISDOM

1. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it its lusts. (Romans 6:12)

a) Sin must not be allowed to reign in the mortal body
b) Sin allures through lusts
c) Sin must not reign or we will end up obeying sin as the master and lord

2. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin (Romans 6:13a)

a) The members of the body
i) Heart
ii) Mind
iii) Will
iv) Spirit
v) Body
b) Do not present any member as instruments of unrighteousness to sin
i) Do not present (we are responsible)
ii) We must resist becoming instruments of unrighteousness that leads to sin
c) But present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God
i) In contrast
ii) We are to present ourselves to God
iii) Alive from the dead
iv) Members as instruments of righteousness to God

3. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace

a) Sin must not have dominion
b) We are not under the law
i) Sin will make use of the law to control us
ii) The law in itself has no power to overcome sin
c) Under grace… that is… under the Lord who rules by His grace
