REVIEW OF DOCTRINES IN ROMANS I

1. THE DOCTRINE OF JUDGMENT

a) All will be judged by God one day
i) Gentiles (Romans 1)
ii) Jews (Romans 2)
b) How will God judge?
i) According to our deeds (Romans 2:6)
ii) Judged by the law of God (Romans 2:12)
iii) Judged by the law of our hearts (Romans 2:13)
iv) Judged by the Lord Jesus (Romans 2:16)
iv) Judged by the gospel preached (Romans 2:16)
c) Two possible outcomes
i) The wrath of God (Romans 1:18; 2:5, 8)
ii) Eternal life (Romans 2:6)

2. THE DOCTRINE OF SIN

a) All have sinned (Romans 3:9, 23)
i) None righteous (Romans 3:10)
ii) All have turned aside (Romans 3:12)
iii) No fear of God (Romans 3:18)
b) All the world guilty before God (Romans 3:19)
c) The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)
d) The Law does not have an answer to the problem of sin
i) By the law is the knowledge of sin (Romans 3:20)
ii) We know we fall short (Romans 3:23)

3. THE DOCTRINE OF JUSTIFICATION

a) Justification means “being declared righteous” by God (Romans 3:24)
i) Justified by God (Romans 3:30)
ii) Justified freely by His grace (Romans 3:24)
iii) Justified by faith (Romans 5:1)
iv) Justified by His blood (Romans 5:9)
b) Justification results in “imputed righteousness”
i) Accounted to him (Abraham) for righteousness (Romans 4:22)
ii) Also imputed to us (Romans 4:23)
iii) Imputed to the uncircumcised (Romans 4:11)
c) Faith in the Lord is necessary
i) Imputed righteousness to those who believe God raised up Jesus (Romans 4:24)
ii) Justified by faith apart from the law (Romans 4)
