THE OATH OF THE LORD

1. The high priesthood must be established by an oath (Hebrews 7:20)

2. This oath was given by the LORD God (Hebrews 7:20)
With reference to the Melchizedek priesthood

3. The LORD has sworn and will not relent (Psalm 110:4)

THE AARONIC PRIESTHOOD IN COMPARISON
(Exodus 28:1-4)

1. Aaron and his sons were chosen to be priests

2. They were to be consecrated

3. But no oath was given to Aaron concerning the continuity of the priesthood

4. Limitation with the Aaronic covenant

a) Many priests
b) They were prevented by death from continuing (Hebrews 7:23)
c) Many were weak (Hebrews 7:28a)
d) They needed to make sacrifices for their own sins (Hebrews 7:27)

A BETTER COVENANT

1. Jesus the surety of the better covenant (Hebrews 7:22)

2. This was prophesied by Jeremiah the prophet (Jeremiah 31:31-37)

THE MELCHIZEDEK PRIESTHOOD

1. This is an unchangeable priesthood (Hebrews 7:24)

2. Because the Lord Jesus continues forever (Hebrews 7:24)

3. He is able to save to the uttermost
Those who come to God through Him (Hebrews 7:25)

4. He makes intercession for His people (Hebrews 7:25)

AN APPRECIATION OF THE LORD JESUS OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST

1. The Attributes of the Lord Jesus

a) Holy
b) Harmless
c) Undefiled
d) Separate from sinners
e) Higher than the heavens (Hebrews 7:26)

2. His perfect sacrifice

a) He offered Himself
b) Only one sacrifice was needed (Hebrews 7:27)
c) Jesus has no weakness (Hebrews 7:28)
