Speaker:

Epistle to the Hebrews

Message Notes

HAVING BEEN ENLIGHTENED

1. Experiencing enlightenment (Hebrews 6:4a)

2. Tasted the heavenly gift (Hebrews 6:4b)

3. Partakers of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 6:4c)

4. Tasted the good word of God (Hebrews 6:5a)

5. The powers of the age to come (Hebrews 6:5b)

EVALUATION OF THESE EXPERIENCES

1. They do not equate with salvation

2. They may only be a taste of things spiritual and eternal

3. But they may not have permanent life-changing significance

FALLING AWAY

1. If they fall away (Hebrews 6:6a)

a) Not “if”
b) But actual falling away
c) “And having fallen away”

2. To renew them again to repentance (Hebrews 6:6b)

a) Difficult to near impossible (humanly speaking)
b) They are immune to the power of spiritual influence and impact

3. A graver reason

a) They crucify again for themselves the Son of God (Hebrews 6:6c)
b) Put Him to open shame (Hebrews 6:6d)

AN IMPORTANT ILLUSTRATION

1. The earth receives rain and bears fruit for those who cultivate it
They receive blessings from God (Hebrews 6:7a)

2. But if the earth bears thorns and briers
It is rejected and cursed
Whose end is to be burned (Hebrews 6:7b)
