THE HIGH PRIESTHOOD III

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

1. Capacity for Compassion on:

a) The ignorant
b) Those who have gone astray (Hebrews 5:2)

2. Weakness of the (human) high priest

a) He is subject to weakness (Hebrews 5:2)
b) He too is sinful
c) He must offer sacrifices for his own sin (Hebrews 5:3)

THE HONOUR OF THE HIGH PRIESTHOOD

1. He cannot appoint himself as the high priest (Hebrews 5:4)

2. He has to have a Call from God (Hebrews 5:4)

THE HIGH PRIESTHOOD OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. Christ did not glorify Himself as the High Priest

2. He was Called by God

THE FULFILMENT

1. The Prophetic Decree

a) You are My Son (Psalm 2:7)
b) Today I have begotten You (Psalm 2:7)

2. The Application of this royal decree

a) He was designated as the Anointed (Messiah) (Psalm 2:2)
b) He is declared King (Psalm 2:6)
c) You are My Son (Hebrews 5:5)
d) This is My beloved Son (Matthew 3:17)

3. The Lord Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures in 2 aspects

a) As the Messiah-King (Psalm 2)
b) As the High Priest (Hebrews 5:5)

4. The Practice of High Priesthood

a) In the days of His flesh (Hebrews 5:7)
b) Offered up prayers and supplications (Hebrews 5:7)
c) With vehement cries and tears
d) To Him who was able to save Him from death
e) He was heard because of His godly fear
