“Brethren”

THE CONCEPT OF BEING CALLED BRETHREN

1. Brethren, lit. translated “brother”

2. To be Brethren

a. We are first called sons of God (Hebrews 2:10, Cf. Romans 8:15)
b. In sonship, we have a Brotherhood

A SPECIAL CONNECTION TO THE LORD JESUS

1. The Lord Jesus closely identifies Himself with us

a. He sanctifies us (Hebrews 2:11)
b. We are all of one (Hebrews 2:11)
c. He is not ashamed to call us brethren (Hebrews 2:11)

2. The Lord Jesus completely identifies Himself with us

a. He Himself shared in the same – partaking of flesh and blood (Hebrews 2:14)
b. He had to be made like His brethren (Hebrews 2:17)
c. That He may suffer (Hebrews 2:18)
d. And go through death (Hebrews 2:14)

THE CONSCIOUS APPLICATION OF BEING CALLED BRETHREN

“Therefore holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus” (Hebrews 3:1)

1. We are holy (sanctified)

2. We are partakers of the heavenly calling

3. We are consider the example of the Lord Jesus Christ

b. High Priest
c. Faithful
