THE “REST” THAT GOD HAS PROMISED

1. There is a “Rest” that God has promised (Hebrews 4:1a)

2. Appropriate response:

To have a sense of “fear” (Hebrews 4:1b)

3. Danger
Danger of coming short (Hebrews 4:1c)

RESPONDING TO THE WORD OF GOD

1. The word of the Gospel (Hebrews 4:2a)

2. Word was meant to profit the listener

3. But not all profit from listening to the Word (Hebrews 4:2b)

WHY WAS THIS THE CASE?

1. The word was preached

2. It was heard

3. But not always with faith (Hebrews 4:2c)

THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH

1. Those who have believed (Hebrews 4:3a)

2. They enter into that rest promised (Hebrews 4:3b)

PARABLE OF THE SOWER
(Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23)

1. Seed fell on the wayside (Matthew 13:4)

a) Birds of the air (Matthew 13:4)
b) The wicked on snatches the seed (Matthew 13:19)

2. Others fell on stony ground (Matthew 13:5-6)

a) Shallow ground (Matthew 13:5)
b) No root (Matthew 13:20-21)
c) Perishes (Matthew 13:6, 21)

3. Still others fell on thorny ground (Matthew 13:7)

a) Seed choked (Matthew 13:7)
b) Word choked… unfruitful (Matthew 13:21)

4. Mercifully, some fell on good ground (Matthew 13:8)

a) Strong yield (30, 60, 100 fold) (Matthew 13:8)
b) Word heard and understood (Matthew 13:23)
