(II) MEASURING UP

“We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other” 2 Thessalonians 1:3

1. With reference to faith

a) It grew

b) It continues to grow

c) It grows exceedingly

2. With reference to love

a) The love of everyone

b) This love abounds

c) It is well expressed to each other

(III) MIGHTY COMMENDATION OF AN OUTSTANDING FAITH

“So that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure” 2 Thessalonians 1:4

1. Rightful “boasting”

a) Not with foolish pride in human endeavour

b) But rejoicing in the tremendous expressions of genuine faith

2. Special areas singled out for commendation

a) Patience (Perseverance) in persecution and tribulation

b) Endurance of persecution and tribulation

c) Faith amidst persecution and tribulation

(IV) MEANING IN SUFFERING TO BE FOUND

“Which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you suffer;Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you.” 2 Thessalonians 1:5-6

1. Accepting Suffering

Counted worthy to suffer for the Lord ( Acts 5:41 )

2. Repaying with tribulation those who cause suffering

3. All within the righteous will of God

(V) EXHORTATION TO CULTIVATE FAITH

1. Every reason to cultivate a strong faith

2. Every means available to cultivate a strong faith
