(I) THE SCRIPTURAL WRITING OF THE BIBLE

1. Misconceptions of the Scriptures

a) Only fables and stories

b) No relevance for today

c) Abuse of the Scriptures

2. The writing of Scripture is for our admonition

“Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” 1 Corinthians 10:11

a) Examples that are found in the Scriptures

b) Written down as part of the Holy Scripture

i) Recorded for posterity

ii) Recorded for all

c) Meant for our admonition

i) Things for us to learn and to grow in

(II) THE SOURCE OF THE SCRIPTURE

1. God as the source of the writing of the divine Scriptures

a) One author…God

b) Gave His word in written form

2. Understanding the finger of God

“Then the Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.” Deuteronomy 9:10

a) The Decalogue was written by the finger of God

b) Words of God specially written

c) The handwriting of God on tablets of stone

d) Regarded as tablets of the covenant

e) Specially entrusted to Moses…passed down to us

(III) A SACRED REGARD FOR THE SCRIPTURES

1. The example of Moses

a) When He went to receive the tablets, he had a holy regard

b) He humbled himself before the Lord…fell before Him both times
(Deuteronomy 9:18)

c) He fasted for forty days and night (Deuteronomy 9:9, 18)

d) He stood in awe as the finger of God wrote on the tablets

e) He received the two tablets of covenant from the Lord with the utmost regard

2. The bad example of the people of Israel

a) The nature of the people

i) Stiff necked (Deuteronomy 9:6)

ii) Provoked the Lord to wrath (Deuteronomy 9:7)

iii) Rebellious (Deuteronomy 9:7)

b) The lack of a sacred regard for the Lord’s Word

i) Turned aside from the way that God has commanded (Deuteronomy 9:12)

ii) They turned to idolatry (Deuteronomy 9:12)

iii) Sinned against the Lord (Deuteronomy 9:16)

iv) They had not waited to receive the two tablets of the Lord

v) They had no proper regard for the word of God
