THE PROPHETIC PROMISE OF THE INFLOW OF THE SPIRIT

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive;”   John 7:36-38

1. The Prophecy of the Holy Spirit given

a) Based on the Scriptures
b) Reference to Isaiah 44:3
“For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring;”

2. The promise of the Holy Spirit

3. The proffering of the Holy Spirit to fully saturate the dry ground of the heart

THE EXPANSION OF THE PROMISE TO THE OUTFLOW OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. The expansion of the prophetic promise

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”   John 7:38

2. The outflow of the Spirit of God will be seen as rivers of living waters

3. There will come great power and blessings

4. The Spirit will transform the person’s life

FULFILMENT OF THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. The Holy Spirit was poured into their lives where once they were dry in heart   (Acts 2:1-4)

“And they were all filled with the Spirit of God…”

2. The disciples were empowered to preach the word with boldness where once they were afraid   (Acts 2:14-36)

3. This demonstrated the outflowing rivers of living waters in their lives

4. The impact on the lives of others

THE APPLICATION OF THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO ALL

“For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”   Acts 2:39

1. The promise was not only given to the disciples alone

2. The promise was to all

a) To the people
b) To the next generation
c) To people afar off
d) To those whom the Lord has called

RESPOND TO THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. Open to all to come

“Jesus said, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.’ ”   John 7:37

2. Receive the inflow of the Holy Spirit by believing in Jesus

3. Let the outflow of the Spirit of God be seen by others

4. Let the Holy Spirit flow into the lives of others through us.
