(I) THE EMPLOYMENT OF GOD’S NAME

(II) INVOKING THE NAME OF THE LORD

1. May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble (Psalm 20:1a)

2. May the name of the God of Jacob defend you (Psalm 20:1b)

3. May He send you help from the sanctuary (Psalm 20:2a)

4. And strengthen you out of Zion (Psalm 20:2b)

5. May He remember all your offerings (Psalm 20:3)

6. May He grant you according to your heart’s desire (Psalm 20:4a)

7. And fulfill all your purpose/petitions (Psalm 20:4b, 5c)

(III) BELIEVING IN GOD’S NAME

1. Setting up banners in the name of God (Psalm 20:5b)

2. Rejoicing in God’s name (Psalm 20:5a)

3. Assurance

a) God will save His anointed (Psalm 20:6a)

b) God will answer his prayers (Psalm 20:6b)

c) He will give “saving strength” (Psalm 20:6c)

4. In significant contrast

a) Not trusting in chariots/ horses (Psalm 20:7a)

b) Remembering the Lord’s name (Psalm 20:7b)
