(I) EXCITING PROPHECY CONCERNING THE MESSIAH

1. He will be a Great Light in a land of Darkness (Isaiah 9:2)

2. The government will be upon His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6)

3. He will enjoy the loftiest titles (Isaiah 9:6)

(II) EXTRAORDINARY PRESENTATION OF THE MESSIAH

1. Behold, My Servant! (Isaiah 42:1a)

2. The Messiah will come as a Servant of the LORD

(III) EXQUISITE PROMISES GIVEN

1. My Elect One (Isaiah 42:1b)

2. In whom My soul delights (Isaiah 42:1c)

3. I have put My Spirit on Him (Isaiah 42:1d)

4. I have called You in righteousness (Isaiah 42:6a)

5. And will hold Your hand (Isaiah 42:6b)

6. I will keep You as a covenant to the people (Isaiah 42:6c)

7. As a light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 42:6d)

(IV) EXCEPTIONAL CHARACTER

1. His voice will be gentle

“He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, nor cause His voice to be heard in the streets” Isaiah 42:2

2. He will be tender

“A bruised reed He will not break. And smoking flax He will not quench” Isaiah 42:3

3. His Spirit is strong

“He will not fail nor be discouraged…” Isaiah 42:4

(V) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. Sing to the LORD a new song (Isaiah 42:10)

2. Give glory to the Lord (Isaiah 42:12a)

3. Declare His praise (Isaiah 42:12b)
