SIGNAL STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE WORK OF CHRIST JESUS

1. He has borne our griefs   (Isaiah 53:4)

2. He has carried our sorrows   (Isaiah 53:4)

SIGNIFICANCE OF THESE WORKS

1. Vicarious significance

a) He was wounded for our transgressions   (Isaiah 53:5)
b) He was bruised for our iniquities   (Isaiah 53:5)
c) The Lord has paid on Him the iniquity of us all   (Isaiah 53:6)

2. Victorious significance

a) The chastisement of our peace was upon Him
b) By His stripes we are healed

THE ASTONISHING NEGATIVE RESPONSES TO THE LORD

1. He was despised   (Isaiah 53:3)

2. He was rejected   (Isaiah 53:3)

3. He was not well esteemed   (Isaiah 53:3)

4. He was esteemed as afflicted by God   (Isaiah 53:4)

HOW THE LORD UNDERSTOOD AND BORE ALL THE TASKS LAID ON HIM

1. He shall deal prudently   (Isaiah 52:13)

2. He was acquainted with grief   (Isaiah 53:3)

3. He opened not His mouth   (Isaiah 53:7)

GOD’S EVALUATION OF THE WORK OF CHRIST JESUS

1. His soul is an offering for sin   (Isaiah 53:10)

2. He shall see His seed   (Isaiah 53:10)

3. He shall see the labour of His soul   (Isaiah 53:11)

4. He shall be satisfied   (Isaiah 53:11)

5. He shall justify many   (Isaiah 53:11)

6. He shall bear their iniquities   (Isaiah 53:11)

7. He shall have a portion with the great   (Isaiah 53:12)
