THE PROBLEM OF THINKING THAT GOD HAS FORGOTTEN HIS PEOPLE

1. Commencement of problem – Longstanding sin of idolatry

“They do not know nor understand for He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts so that they cannot understand. And no one considers in his heart nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say.”   Isaiah 44:18-19
a. The Lord had shut the eyes and hearts of His people
b. There was only a vague memory of the Lord
c. Sin caused His people to forget God

2. Continuation of problem – Misconception, misgivings and misunderstandings

“But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me…”   Isaiah 49:14
a. They could not get over the reality that God had punished them
b. There were doubts and misgivings of God forgetting them
c. There was misunderstanding

THE REASONS WHY GOD WILL NOT FORGET HIS PEOPLE

“O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me!”   Isaiah 44:21

1. Covenantal relationship

a. We are His people
b. We are His servants   (Isaiah 44:21)

2. Creator and creature relationship

a. He formed us from the womb   (Isaiah 44:21, 24)
b. He is our Creator and we are His

3. Covering of sins

a. He has blotted our sins   (Isaiah 44:22 )
i. As a thick cloud
ii. As a cloud
b. He has redeemed us   (Isaiah 44:22)

4. Commitment of God

a. He has inscribed us in palm of His hands   (Isaiah 49:16)
b. He will not forget His people   (Isaiah 49:15)

OUR RESPONSES TO GOD

1. Remember God   (Isaiah 44:21)

2. Return to God   (Isaiah 44:22)

3. Rejoice in singing to God   (Isaiah 44:23)

4. Reassurance in God’s word   (Isaiah 44:26)

5. Renewal to serve God   (Isaiah 44:21)
