THE TESTIMONY OF THE MESSIAH-SERVANT

1. A public testimony

a) Listen, O coastlands, to Me   (Isaiah 49:1a)
b) Take heed, you peoples from afar   (Isaiah 49:1b)

2. A profound testimony of God’s calling

a) The LORD has called Me from the womb   (Isaiah 49:1c)
b) From the matrix of My mother   (Isaiah 49:1d)
c) He made mention of My name   (Isaiah 49:1e)

3. A testimony of how God prepared Him for ministry

a) He has made My mouth like a sharp sword   (Isaiah 49:2a)
b) He has hidden Me   (Isaiah 49:2b)
i) In the shadow of His hand   (Isaiah 49:2c)
ii) And made Me a polished shaft   (Isaiah 49:2d)

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LORD AND HIS MESSIAH

1. Remembering what the LORD said

a) And now the LORD says   (Isaiah 49:5a)
b) Who formed Me to be His servant   (Isaiah 49:5b)
c) To bring Jacob back to Him   (Isaiah 49:5c)
d) So that Israel is gathered to Him   (Isaiah 49:5d)

2. Reflection of Confidence

a) I shall be glorious in His sight   (Isaiah 49:5e)
b) And My God shall be My strength   (Isaiah 49:5f)

ASSURANCE OF WHAT GOD SAID

1. Indeed He says   (Isaiah 49:6a)

a) It is too small a thing that You should be My servant   (Isaiah 49:6b)
b) To raise up the tribes of Jacob   (Isaiah 49:6c)
c) To restore the preserved ones of Israel   (Isaiah 49:6d)
d) I will also give you as a light to the Gentiles   (Isaiah 49:6e)
e) That You should be the salvation to the ends of the earth   (Isaiah 49:6f)

2. Confirmation of the glorious status of the Messiah

a) Thus says the LORD   (Isaiah 49:7a)
i) The Redeemer of Israel   (Isaiah 49:7b)
ii) The Holy One   (Isaiah 49:7c)
b) To the Messiah
i) To Him whom man despises   (Isaiah 49:7d)
ii) To Him whom the nation abhors   (Isaiah 49:7e)
iii) To the Servant of the rulers   (Isaiah 49:7f)
c) Ultimately, the appropriate response
i) Kings shall see and arise   (Isaiah 49:7g)
ii) Princes also shall worship   (Isaiah 49:7h)
d) Because of:
i) The LORD is faithful   (Isaiah 49:7i)
ii) The Holy One of Israel   (Isaiah 49:7j)
iii) And He has chosen You   (Isaiah 49:7k)
God will faithfully fulfil all that He has promised!
