UNDERSTANDING WHAT PURPOSE IS

“Purpose…”   2 Timothy 3:10

1. Having a general sense of purpose

2. Encouragement to have purpose of heart   (Acts 11:23)

a. Barnabas had seen the grace of God at Antioch

b. He was glad to see this

c. He encouraged them all to have purpose of heart

d. They should continue with the Lord

3. New Christians can have purpose of heart too.

FINDING PURPOSE IN LIFE AND MINISTRY

“But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose…”   2 Timothy 3:10

1. Reading the word of God

a. Purpose can be found through reading the word of God

b. Knowledge of doctrine comes about along the way

c. The word of God must speak to our heart

d. The word of God must be learnt

2. Learning to live our life well

a. When we read the word of God, it can affect our life

b. Paul went beyond just understanding knowledge.

c. The word of God affected his manner of life.

d. The word of God tells us how we should live our life

3. Seeking to have purpose of heart

a. We need to learn to have purpose of heart.

b. We must learn to follow through

c. There must be a sense of purpose with reference to life and ministry

d. Paul had purpose of heart to follow through

APPLYING PURPOSE TO LIFE

1. Purpose

a. God’s purposes for one’s life

i. Glorifying God

ii. Bearing fruit for the Lord

b. We can have purpose of heart to do these things

2. Plan of life

a. Having a plan for our life

b. Seeking to order our life

c. The plan will help us fulfil the purpose

3. Personal will to follow through

a. There must be the yielding of the will to do the purpose

b. There must be the drive to follow through with the plan

c. There must be persistence to fulfil it.
