1. The concept of firstfruits

a. The first batch of fruits in a season

b. It indicates that the rest of fruits will come

2. The Spirit of God is given to indwell us

a. God dwells in heaven

b. He sent the Lord Jesus to us

c. The Lord Jesus has returned to heaven

d. The Holy Spirit has been sent to dwell in us

3. First-fruits of the Spirit of God who indwells us

a. Prayer   (Romans 8:15)

i. Once we did not pray

ii. Now we are inclined to pray

iii. We can speak to God as “Abba Father”

b. Hope   (Romans 8:24)

i. Once we were full of doubts

ii. Now we have hope

iii. We have been saved in this hope!

c. Eagerly waiting for heaven   (Romans 8:23)

i. Once we were afraid of death

ii. Now we are eagerly waiting for heaven

iii. There will come a time when we will be given new bodies
(“the redemption of the body”)

4. Appreciating and applying this truth

a. Thank God for the Spirit of God dwelling in us

b. Thank God for the firstfruits of the Spirit that we can see in our lives

c. What we should do   (Romans 8:25)

i. Hope

ii. Eagerly wait

iii. With perseverance
