Title: Faith and God’s Provision II

INTRODUCTION

1. The Miracles of the Lord Jesus Christ

a) They were recorded in Books called “Gospels”

b) They were recorded for a number of reasons

i) To help us understand who Jesus is

ii) To help us find faith in Jesus as the Saviour (Messiah)

iii) To help us grow our faith in Him

iv) They contain many lessons that are meant to be learned

v) These lessons are meant to be applied in our life

2. Lessons of Faith

a) Faith is not an easy thing to cultivate

b) Thus, the Miracles of the Lord Jesus help us to discover more about Jesus
so that faith can increase steadily and meaningfully

WRONG LESSONS LEARNED

1. Sometimes wrong lessons are learned

a) The perception of Jesus

i) They were going to make Him King after the Miracle of feeding
the Five Thousand John 6:15

ii) They would force Jesus to be King if needs be (John 6:15)

b) Their thoughts:

i) Jesus could feed thousands easily (they had experienced this personally)

ii) If He was made King, then He would have to take care of them as His subjects (Many would have seen or heard of Jesus performing other miracles)

iii) They figured that Jesus was at least a prophet… or even “The Prophet who is to come into the world.” (John 6:14)

c) The Lord Jesus withdrew Himself from them (John 6:15)

i) He withdrew from His disciples

ii) He withdrew from the huge multitude

2. Nothing much learned

a) This is with reference to the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ

b) Jesus had withdrawn from the multitudes to pray (Matthew 14:23; Mark 6:46)

c) None of them had asked how He would meet with them again

JESUS WALKING ON THE SEA

1. There was another storm that hit the boat the Disciples were in
(Matthew 14:22-33; Mark 6:45-52)

2. This Miracle was noted by Matthew and Mark

THE EXPERIENCE OF THE DISCIPLES

1. They thought Jesus was a ghost (Matthew 14:26)

2. They were afraid (John 6:19)

3. Jesus had to say:
“It is I, do not be afraid.” (John 6:20)

THE EXPERIENCE OF PETER

1. Peter’s remark

a) Lord, if it is You

b) Command me to come to You on the water (Matthew 14:28)

c) Was that faith?

2. Jesus’ reply: “Come.” (Matthew 14:29)

3. Peter’s fear

a) He saw the waters

b) He saw the waters and the boisterous wind and he became afraid
(Matthew 14:30)

c) He cried out, “Lord, save me.” (Matthew 14:30)

4. Jesus responded immediately

a) He reached out His hand

b) He then said:
“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31)

c) Doubt had affected the faith of Peter

5. The Miracle of Feeding the 5000

a) It had not impacted the Disciples very much

b) Mark noted the reason

i) They had not understood about the loaves (Mark 6:52)

ii) Because their heart was hardened (Mark 6:52)

THE DEEP LESSONS ABOUT SALVATION JESUS WANTED TO TEACH
(John 6: 22-71)

1. In Capernaum

a) Many had taken a boat trip to Capernaum to look for Jesus (John 6:24-25)

b) They were surprised that Jesus was already in Capernaum before them

c) Jesus did not speak about walking on the Sea of Galilee

2. Important lessons Jesus wanted to teach the people

a) To labour for the food which endures to everlasting life (John 6:27)

i) They laboured for food that did not lead to eternal life

ii) They laboured to see Jesus and to make Him King

iii) Why not labour for the food that leads to eternal life?

b) The work of God

i) Not to make Jesus their King

ii) But to believe in Jesus whom God had sent (John 6:29)

3. Wonderful truths that we may all believe in

a) The Bread of life

i) “I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35, 48)

ii) “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” (John 6:41)

iii) “I am the living bread which came down from heaven.” (John 6:51)

b) Total satisfaction
“He who comes to Me shall never hunger,
and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)

c) No rejection
“The one who comes to Me, I will by no means cast out.” (John 6:37)

d) Eternal life
“He who eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:58)

THE SAD REJECTION OF MANY

1. A complaining heart (John 6:41, 61)

2. A quarreling heart (John 6:52)

3. A disbelieving heart (John 6:64)

4. Rejection of Jesus (John 6:66)
(They walked with Him no more)

CONCLUSION

1. Our Challenge to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ

a) As our Saviour

b) As the Bread of life

c) To receive Jesus so that we may have eternal life

2. Another Challenge

a) To fight doubts

b) To fight fear

c) To believe more deeply in Jesus
