TITLE: HOPE IN GOD

INTRODUCTION:

1. Problems in Life

a) When we feel dry and Thirsty (Psalm 42:1-2)
b) When we feel sad and Tears come (Psalm 42:3a)
c) When people say unkind things
and they question our faith in God (Psalm 42:3b, 10)
d) When we miss good fellowship (Psalm 42:4)

2. Problems can make us feel:

a) Down in the dumps
b) Depressed
c) Disquieted
“Cast down” (Psalm 42:5, 11)

3. Problems arising from Covid-19 Pandemic

a) We have to stay at home
b) We are fearful
c) We feel sad and lonely

LEARNING HOW TO OVERCOME SUCH FEELINGS

1. Plan to seek God

a) As a thirsty deer (Psalm 42:1)
b) When we feel thirst in our soul (Psalm 42:2)
c) Example of how to plan:
i) In the night (Psalm 4:4)
ii) In the morning (Psalm 5:3)
d) When the heart is troubled (Psalm 42: 5, 11)

2. Pray to God

a) Praying with frankness
“O my God, my soul is cast down within me” (Psalm 42:6a)
b) Pouring out your soul to God
“I pour out my soul within me” (Psalm 42:4b)
c) Praying with faith
“Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him” (Psalm 42:5c, 11c)
d) Pray morning, noon and night
“Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud;
And He will hear me” (Psalm 55:17)
e) Pray with confidence
“The help of my countenance and my God” (Psalm 42:11)

3. Praise God

a) In the day, God’s lovingkindness must be praised (Psalm 42:8a)
i) Recall God’s blessings
ii) Remembering His blessings gratefully
b) In the night, God will give us a song (Psalm 42:8b)
i) To encourage us
ii) To comfort us
c) We can take the words of the song
and turn them into prayers/ praise (Psalm 42:8c)
i) A spirit of praise is possible
ii) This spirit of joy will sustain us well
