POST-FLOOD

1. Settling down after the Flood

a) Noah
b) Three sons (Genesis 9:19)

2. From these the whole earth was populated (Genesis 9:19)

a) Raising children
b) Building families

3. Noah’s work as a farmer (Genesis 9:20)

a) Tilling the ground
b) Planted a vineyard

DANGER AFOOT

1. With age

2. With success / wealth

3. Indulgence in drinking

4. Drunkenness of Noah

a) He became uncovered in his tent (Genesis 9:21)
b) This was an undignified event

TWO DIFFERENT RESPONSES

1. Ham, the father of Canaan (Genesis 9:22)

a) He saw the nakedness of Noah
b) He spoke about this to Shem and Japheth
c) He did not cover his father

2. Shem and Japheth
(Genesis 12:23)

a) They took a garment
b) Laid in on their shoulders
c) Walked backward and covered their father’s nakedness
d) Their faces were turned away and they did not see Noah’s nakedness

NOAH’S RESPONSE

1. He woke up from his drunkenness (Genesis 9:24)

2. He learned about Ham’s behavior (Genesis 9:24)

3. Two pronouncements

a) Cursing of Canaan
i) This is a reference to the offspring of Ham (Genesis 9:25)
ii) He will be servant to his brethren
b) Blessing of Shem and Japheth
i) Blessing the LORD
ii) Canaan would be the servant
iii) The tents of Shem and Japheth be enlarged (Genesis 9:26-27)

THE LIFE-SPAN OF NOAH

Died at 950 years (Genesis 12:28-29)

DANGER THAT COME WITH AGE

1. Complacency

2. Indulgence

3. Unguardedness

4. Loss of spiritual closeness

5. Loss of wisdom
Contrary to the common concept that wisdom comes with age.
