REASONS FOR BEING A GOOD MINISTER OF JESUS

Is it important to be a good servant of the Lord? The answer is “Yes”. We need people today who would seek to be good ministers of Jesus Christ. This was something that Paul challenged Timothy to be.

“You will be good minister of Jesus Christ”
1 Timothy 4:6

Why should we seek to be good ministers?

1. STANDING AGAINST FALSE TEACHERS (1 Timothy 4:1-2)

The challenge for us today is to battle against false teachings that have affected Churches. There is a growing apostasy in the world today that has been caused by falsehood. We must vigorously fight against the spread of such false ideas.

2. CARING FOR THE BRETHREN (1 Timothy 4:6)

We are to care for the brethren by instructing them well so that they would not be deceived.

3. COMPLIANCE TO THE COMMANDS OF THE LORD JESUS (1 Timothy 4:6)

We are meant to submit to the Lordship of Christ Jesus. We are meant to serve
Him well.

THE CHALLENGE TO BE A GOOD MINISTER OF JESUS CHRIST

1. INSTRUCTING THE BRETHREN WELL

“If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ”
1 Timothy 4:6

“These things” were a reference to all that Paul had taught Timothy from chapter 1 to chapter 4. He wrote about the purpose of the commandments of God. He challenged Timothy to fight the good fight. Paul also explained about the kind of character that the servant of God must have and how in the end times, some will depart from the faith. There is no doubt that we can be a good minister of Jesus Christ when we get down to instructing the brethren in “these things”. The word “instruct” in Greek has the idea of laying things before a person. Timothy was meant to lay the truths of God’s word before others so that they may follow them.

2. BEING NOURISHED BY WORDS OF FAITH ALONG THE WAY

“Nourished in the words of faith”
1 Timothy 4:6

The apostle Paul taught that as Timothy sought to instruct “these things” to others, he would also be nourished in the words of faith. Instructing and being nourished go together. The word “nourished” in Greek means “to be fed” spiritually. The servant of God was meant to feed on and live by the word of faith along the way as he teaches. The person who learns the most in the process of instructing others is the person who is instructing others. Young people, let’s appreciate the people who instruct “these things” to us. Let’s seek to learn as well as we can from them that we may know words of faith too.
