Three “R” Words To Challenge Youths To Live Life Well

The book of Ecclesiastes is not a book just meant for adults. Solomon also addressed young people in his solemn, wise and enlightening book. Being one of the wisest men that ever lived, he pondered over what words he should say to young people as he reflected on the vanities of life. What he wrote were wise words for young people. How should a young person live out his life well?

1. Rejoice, Don’t Be “Emo”

“Rejoice, O young man, in your youth,
And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth”

Ecclesiastes 11:9

“Therefore remove sorrow from your heart”
Ecclesiastes 11:10

Solomon saw the need for young people to learn to rejoice. His advice was for young people to remove sorrow from their hearts. It is interesting to note how Solomon already knew during his time how young people tended to be “emo” (a sub-culture title referring to a young person who is very emotional). Let’s not be “emo”. We are instead to focus on joyful and positive things. It is good for us to learn to rejoice for whatever we have in life now. Life is going to be increasingly hard when we grow older. Let’s cultivate a joyous disposition in the days of our youth.

2. Responsible Living

“Walk in the ways of your heart,
And in the sight of your eyes;
But know that for all these
God will bring you into judgment.”

Ecclesiastes 11:9

“Put away evil from your flesh,
For childhood and youth are vanity.”

Ecclesiastes 11:10

Youths will always tend to walk in their own ways. This is why it is vital for us to consider the judgment that we all have to face one day. It is wiser that we learn to live our lives responsibly because we have to account for it one day before God. Let’s seek to remove whatever that is sinful and evil in our life lest we waste our youth.

3. Remember The Lord

“Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
Before the difficult days come,
And the years draw near when you say,
‘I have no pleasure in them'”

Ecclesiastes 12:1

The best advice that Solomon could give to youths was for them to include God in their lives. All young people should take the time to know their Creator and to walk with Him because as we grow older, the days will come when life will be tough. It is best that we know God now and involve Him in our daily life so that we can be ready to face the difficult years ahead. Let’s always seek to involve God in our lives.
