WALKING CIRCUMSPECTLY

Choosing To Live Wisely Each Day

Each day, God gives us twenty four hours to use. How well we use them is dependent on the choices we make for the day. The Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians wrote of the need for Christians to choose to live their lives wisely and not foolishly.

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise”
Ephesians 5:15

The word “circumspectly” in the Greek means “carefully”. A wise person will select carefully the path he wants to take in his life. The fool, on the other hand, will waste his days. Young people, let’s be most prudent with our use of time.

Powerful Reasons To Walk Wisely

There are three reasons why we want to live wisely.

1. Because We Want To Walk As Children Of God

“See then”
Ephesians 5:15

The context of Ephesians 5 is challenging God’s children to practise their faith well. We have been redeemed from our sins. We have spiritually come alive from the deadness of sin. If we are truly the children of God, then logically, we should live wisely.

2. Because The Days Are Filled With So Much Evil

“Because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:16

Another powerful reason is that the days which we live in are filled with so much evil. The world is filled with many works of darkness. The deadly spiritual forces of Satan are at work against the Church. We must seek to live wisely lest we fall into Satan’s traps.

3. Because We Want To Understand And Do The Will Of God

“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Ephesians 5:17

We want to also live our lives within the will of God. That is why understanding His general will for our lives is vital. Let’s take time to read and know God’s will from the Scriptures in a deeper way. Let’s not frivolously use our time in a senseless way.

Learning To Redeem The Time

“Redeeming the time”
Ephesians 5:16

The phrase “redeeming the time” means to “buy” back time. Of course, in reality, we cannot use money to buy back time. And yet, whatever we choose to do in life, time is a vital cost factor. Let’s ensure that we make full use of the time given to us.
