Walk Before Me

REVIEWING THE LESSONS THAT WE HAVE LEARNT

My heart continues to give thanks for the lessons that we have learnt at the Youth Worship Special. There is so much that we have been taught by Pastor Charles. The four main lessons that we have learnt are as follows: worshipping God, walking with God, word of God and working out your salvation. Young people, do take time to review these lessons again and again. The more we do so, the more they can become a part of us. One lesson that has stayed with me is walking with God.

THE PROBLEM OF INCONSISTENCY IN WALKING WITH GOD

Abraham commenced well in his walk with God when he reached the land of Canaan. He whole-heartedly worshipped the Lord at Bethel (Genesis 12:8). However, his walk with God was inconsistent. There were good days when he walked with Him and there were not-so-good days when he did not. There were times when he exercised faith in God as he faced challenges in life and there were times when he did not involve Him in his life. He made mistakes and did things which were wrong. His walk with God was inconsistent. This is a problem that many of us tend to have too.

THE CHALLENGE TO WALK BEFORE THE LORD

“I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”
Genesis 17:1b

The LORD God had to correct this inconsistency that Abraham had in walking with Him.

1. PERSONAL COMPREHENSION OF A POWERFUL GOD

Abram needed to know and see God as one who is all-powerful. He needed to correct his “less than proper” regard of who God is. Abram was to learn to trust Him fully that He is powerful enough to do all things for him according to His word. The LORD God is truly able to do the impossible.

2. PERSONAL CONSCIOUSNESS OF GOD AS WE WALK

There was also a need for Abram to be conscious of the presence of God as he walked in life. Walking with the LORD would require cultivating a close relationship with Him; to walk with Him each day and to commune with Him. When there is that greater consciousness of the LORD; His omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience, there will be a lesser chance of walking wrongly. Abram was to walk in the presence of His company and to exercise faith in Him for all things.

3. PERSONALLY CONCENTRATING ON WALKING ALRIGHT

The LORD wanted Abram to walk aright and not stray from His way. He was to walk straight and not deviate from His word. God wanted him to be blameless in his sight. The challenge was for him to walk aright consistently.

APPROPRIATE RESPONSES

1. CONTRITION

Abram humbled himself and fell on his face to the LORD (Genesis 17:3). He realised how wrong he was and he responded with contrition. He sought to give the regard that was due to the LORD.

Young people, let’s also humble ourselves in a spirit of contrition before God when we are corrected.

2. COMMITMENT TO WALK ARIGHT

Abram sought to walk with the LORD after this meeting with God. He trusted in the LORD and learnt to be more conscious of Him than himself. The LORD explained further His covenant with Abraham. The LORD blessed him even more as he exercised faith in Him.

Let’s also learn to be committed to walking straight before God. Let’s involve Him so much more in our life. He will indeed be with us and will bless us.
