Knowing The Things Which Must Shortly Take Place

The time of the Lord’s second coming is near. It is far more looming than we think. This is a truth that we want to seriously consider as we prepare for our Church Family Camp starting this Sunday. The Apostle John wrote in his unnerving apocalyptic book concerning the end times. This was a revelation from God, revealed through the Lord Jesus to all His servants.

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants – things which must shortly take place.”
Revelation 1:1

The Lord Jesus brought to light all the events that “must shortly take place”. The sense of this phrase is that these things will quickly appear without warning. Young people, we need to take this fact of the Lord’s second coming most seriously. The time of the Lord’s return is very near. Let’s seek to be ready for it by knowing all the things that will quickly take place.

Taking The Lord’s Second Coming Most Seriously

“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it”
Revelation 1:3

There is the promise of the Lord’s blessings on those who heed this prophecy of His imminent return. On the one hand, the book of Revelation contains all the severe judgments that the world would go through. On the other hand, it also contains the eternal blessings that those beloved of God would receive. They would receive eternal life. They would have the privilege of reigning with the Lord Jesus (Revelation 2:26). How can we seek to go about being serious about our Lord’s coming?

1. Knowing The Word Of God Well

The word “read” in the Greek means “to know accurately”. We must be able to read and know well the word concerning the Lord’s coming. Our challenge is to have the depth and sharpness of understanding concerning His word. Let’s really take time to read and grasp the word of God well.

2. Hearing The Word Of God Well

As we know the Scriptures better, we must also seek to hear from it even more. Very often, people tend to take things easy when they have some knowledge of the word of God and they cease listening. In the text of Revelation 2-3, John challenged his readers that those who have ears must seek to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to the churches. This challenge is mentioned seven times in these few chapters. Let’s seek to hear the word of God as best as we can during this family camp.

3. Practising The Word Of God

We also must seek to keep the word of God. Let’s not just be people who hear and know things only. What we know should be translated to life. John challenged the persecuted Church of Smyrna to be faithful to the Lord till death. The church of Philadelphia was meant to hold fast to what they have. May we also seek to practise these things. Let’s seek to keep the word till the Lord returns.
