The Problem Of People Straying From The Truth

There is always the danger of people straying from the truth of God’s word. When people allow themselves to be deceived by false teachings, they end up deviating from the faith.

“And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.”
2 Timothy 2:17-18

The message of false teachers who have strayed from the truth can spread like cancer. They can destroy people’s faith. False teachings can be most detrimental.

The Foundation Of God Still Stands No Matter What

Even though people can stray from the truth, the word of God is not discredited at all. Paul wrote of how despite the presence of dangerous false teachings, the truths of the word of God continues to remain steadfast.

“Nevertheless, the solid foundation of God stands”
2 Timothy 2:19

Paul explained further in the book of Ephesians what this solid foundation was.

“Having been built of the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone…”
Ephesians 2:20

The foundation of God is Christ and the truths of the word of God. Although the apostles, the prophets, and Christ are no longer with us physically, the truths that they have taught continue to stand. They continue to be steadfast and faithful even though men may not. The foundation of the Church remains inviolate despite some straying from the truth.

Two Powerful Truths

There are two powerful truths that confirm God’s foundations.

1. The Personal Relationship That The Lord Has With Us

“The Lord knows those who are His”
2 Timothy 2:19

It is most encouraging to know that the Lord specially and intimately knows those who belong to Him. When we truly have salvation, we will always belong to Him. What a glorious truth!

2. The Personal Response Of Departing From Evil

“Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
2 Timothy 2:19

When we truly belong to the Lord, we will also depart from all evil and sin. It is an imperative that we sanctify ourselves for the Lord. We must choose to desist from all kinds of evil deeds.

Standing On God’s Foundation

Young people, let’s truly stand on the solid foundation of God’s word. Let’s not stray from the truth of God’s word. Let’s hold fast to it, being certain of our salvation. Let’s also seek to be set apart, sanctified and useful for the Master’s use.
