The Problem Of Scoffing At The Lord’s Second Coming

The Lord Jesus is coming again one day. This is a Biblical statement of fact. However, in the Last Days, false teachers will rise up and seek to deceive people into thinking that such a glorious event will not take place. They will scoff at the promise of His coming.

“Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.'”
2 Peter 3:3-4

Peter wrote of how these mockers would claim that since the time of creation, all things had continued to be as it was. The promise of His coming does not seem to hold true. Such people wilfully forget the word of God. Young people, we must not allow anything to cause us to doubt His coming. We must exercise absolute faith in the Lord’s word.

Exercising Absolute Faith In The Promise Of His Coming

How can we seek to exercise faith in the Lord’s coming?

1. To Be Stirred Up Concerning His Coming

“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder)”
2 Peter 3:1

Peter sought to remind the brethren that the Lord will indeed come again. He sought to stir up the pure minds of these people. Young people, we need to wake up to the reality of the truth of His coming. He will come again soon. Let’s be ready for Him.

2. To Be Deeply Conscious Of The Prophetic Word

“That you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior”
2 Peter 3:2

The challenge is to be mindful of the word of prophecy concerning the second coming of Christ. Let’s seek to memorise and be conscious of the prophetic word concerning His coming, spoken by the prophets of old and commanded by the apostles.

3. To Exercise Full Faith In The Word Of God

“That by the word of God”
2 Peter 3:5

“But the heavens and the earth which now exist are kept in store by the same word”
2 Peter 3:7

It was by the word of God that the flood came upon the whole world. It is also by the same word that the heavens and the earth are being persevered at this moment. If God brought judgment on the ancient world by His word, He will also do the same with reference to this present world. Let’s truly exercise full faith in the word of God.
