The Danger Of Losing Heart When Fear Comes

All of us have fears with regard to the future. Some of us may have fears concerning not doing well in school. Some of us have fears with regard to new phases of life. Fears also come when we are faced with challenging situations. When we fear, worry and feel overwhelmed, we tend to lose heart. David was going through a time when his enemies sought to go against him and to bring false accusations against him (Psalm 27:12). There were times when he felt like losing heart (Psalm 27:13). Young people, do you also feel like losing heart when things do not go our way (i.e. having bad results)? Let’s seek the Lord for that strength to press on.

Confidence In God As The Strength Of Our Life

“The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalm 27:1

David made a wonderful declaration in this Psalm that the Lord was the strength of his life. He expressed tremendous confidence in God and His power. He would give him enough strength to go through whatever he had to go through. And this never-ending reservoir of strength can last a whole lifetime. In the text ofPsalm 18, David wrote of how the Lord was his rock and strength (Psalm 18:2). It was the Lord who armed him with strength (Psalm 18:32). Truly, the Lord had been David’s strength in all that he went through. Thus, he was not afraid of whom he had to face and what he had to go through. How did he find God as the strength of his life?

“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?”

Psalm 27:1

The Lord God was the source of his light. It was God who brought light to him in his times of darkness.

“For You light my lamp;
The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.”

Psalm 18:28

It was the Lord God Almighty who brought light to his lamp. The lamp of the body is actually our perspective of life that comes after having been enlightened. In the text of Matthew 6:22, the Lord Jesus said that the lamp of the body is the eye. When our eye is good, our whole body is full of light. The Lord God is the one who enlightens our spiritual eyes and dispels the darkness in our soul. When our mind, heart and soul are enlightened, there will come a tremendous sense of strength. David found enough strength to “leap over a wall”. Let’s seek the Lord’s enlightening that our heart and soul may be strengthened.

Focusing On Seeking The Lord

“One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to inquire in His temple.”

Psalm 27:4

After finding the Lord as his light and his strength, David developed a solid faith in God. There was no fear of what men could do to him. This brought about a tremendous sense of focus in seeking the Lord. David responded to the Lord in solely seeking Him. He had decided to focus on seeking the Lord and to dwell in His presence throughout his life. More than just finding strength in the Lord, David sought the Lord personally. He sought to draw closer to the person of God. He wanted to discover more things about Him. He wanted to behold the glorious beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in prayer. Strength and confidence helps us to focus more on the Lord rather than focusing on ourselves. When troubles come our way, the Lord would hide us in His pavilion and set us high on a rock. Let’s seek the Lord sincerely and faithfully. Let’s focus on seeking His face. Let’s sing with joy when the Lord specially blesses us as we seek Him.
