THE LIFE OF PAUL (I) – CONVERSION

The Least Likely Convert

If there was someone who was least likely to be a convert, it would have been Paul. Saul, as he was known before he was converted, was dead against Christianity. He was someone who had nothing but hatred for Christians. He had consented to the execution of Stephen. He was also “breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord” (Acts 9:1). He even wanted letters from the chief priest so that he could go to Damascus, 160 km away from Jerusalem, and bring Christians back for trial. Even though he was an ardent persecutor of the Christians, the Lord’s grace was still available to him.

Recognising Jesus As Lord

When Saul was on his way to Damascus, Jesus met him through a bright light shining down from heaven. Paul asked Him, “Who are you, Lord?” He saw this person appearing to him as Lord, but did not know who he was. The Lord Jesus revealed Himself to Saul.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”
Acts 9:5

At that point, Saul realized that the people that he had persecuted belonged to Jesus. He had come to recognize Jesus as the Lord. Young people, have you come to recognize Jesus as Lord?

Going Through A Conversion Process

After meeting the Lord Jesus, Saul went through a conversion process.

1. A Time Of Being Remorseful For Our Sins

“And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.”
Acts 9:9

Saul was fasting during those three days. He must have been remorseful for the sins he had done. Young people, have you ever been remorseful for your sins? True conversion begins with repentance.

2. A Time Of Prayer

“For behold, he is praying.”
Acts 9:11

Saul also took the time to pray. He was seeking the Lord in prayer for forgiveness and restoration. He continued in prayer until the Lord heard him.

3. A Time Of Reconciliation With God

Ananias was sent to him and he said,

“Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 9:17

Paul believed, and his sight was restored. The Spirit of God came upon him and he was baptized. He was reconciled to the Lord. Young people, are we reconciled to God? Let’s take the time to ensure that we are truly converted.
