Struggles With The Sins Of Our Lives

Do we ever struggle with the memories of sins in our lives? Sometimes, when the Lord does not seem to be answering our prayers, stray thoughts concerning our sins will haunt us. King David was waiting on the Lord for deliverance from his enemies. As he waited, the sins of his past began to trouble him.

“Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions…”
Psalm 25:7

He struggled with the guilt of his past sins. For many of us, we also struggle with past and present sins in our lives. Sometimes, we feel so defeated by them, we feel like giving up. Yes, David dwelt on his sins, but he did not allow such thoughts to overwhelm him. He sought the mercies of the Lord.

“According to Your mercy remember me,
For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord.”

Psalm 25:7

The Lord is most merciful to us. Even though we may be sinful, the Lord will still be gracious.

God Still Teaches Sinners

“Good and upright is the Lord;
Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.”

Psalm 25:8

Despite his sinful disposition, David was encouraged to see that God will, nevertheless, teach sinners. God is a good and upright Teacher. He will still be good to those who are sinners. He will still want to teach sinners the good and upright way. It is such an encouraging thought to know that God will never give up on us. He does not want sinners to continue in sin. He will not relinquish His concern to those who continue in sin. He will still faithfully teach sinners according to His great lovingkindness.

Doing Our Part For God To Teach Us

If we want the Lord to guide us, let’s seek to learn from Him.

1. Having A Humble Spirit

“The humble He guides in justice,
And the humble He teaches His way.”

Psalm 25:9

God will teach the person who humbles himself before Him. The humble He will guide. The humble He will teach. When we humble ourselves before God, He will guide us in justice. He will lead us in the righteous way. Young people, let’s seek to set aside our pride. Our part is to be humble enough to listen to the voice of the Lord. Would we humble ourselves enough for the Lord to teach us? We must.

2. Keeping God’s Word

“All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth,
To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.”

Psalm 25:10

The Lord will continue to teach when there is the renewed zeal to walk in His ways. Let us be challenged to keep His word. When we do this, we will discover how the Lord’s paths are full of mercy and truth. We will experience the mercies of the Lord. We will discover how true His paths are. Young people, there is still hope for us. God still teaches sinners. Let’s seek to be guided by God in all that we do through His word.
