THE CHALLENGE TO PRAY

The Problem Of Prayerlessness

One of the problems that we often face as Christians is prayerlessness. Most of us have gained some knowledge about prayer and the basic rudiments of the Lord’s prayer. However, in reality, our prayer life may be almost non-existent. We do not get down to praying as we should. Young people, we have to deal with this problem.

Learning To Ask, Seek And Knock

The Lord Jesus, when He was on this earth, challenged the disciples to get down to practising prayer.

1. Asking in faith

Ask, and it shall be given to you…
Matthew 7:7

The Lord Jesus strongly exhorted the disciples to ask in faith. Our belief in a great God who hears and answers prayers must cause us to seek and rely on Him even more. Our challenge is to get down to asking things from the Lord because He wants us to.

2. Doing our part to seek for answers

Seek, and you will find…
Matthew 7:7

More than just prayer alone, there must also be the “seeking” part. We must also put in personal effort to seek for the answers we pray for. Prayer and action go very much together. When we are willing to work for the things we seek, we would find them.

3. Persevering in prayer

Knock and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:7

“Knock” represents the idea of persevering in prayer. We do not give up when answers to our prayers are not forthcoming. We need to “knock” and “knock” harder in order to get the answers from the Lord. Let’s learn to persevere in prayer till doors are open to us.

Practising Prayer With Confidence

For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.Matthew 7:8

When we get down to asking, seeking and knocking, we would actually receive what we are praying for. Our heavenly Father would give good gifts to those who ask for them. Let’s seek to practise prayer with the confidence that God hears and answers our prayers.
