Finding Full Assurance Of Our Knowledge Of God

It is indeed a great joy when we are able to find full assurance from knowing God deeply. Paul wrote to the Colossian Church to be encouraged to be knit together as one and to attain full assurance in God as they gained a deeper knowledge of Him.

“Attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding”
Colossians 2:2

There is a deep richness that the soul would feel when we have fullness of assurance that comes from understanding the Lord. When we understand His grace and His will, and seek to do it, we would be able to discern further who God is and who Jesus is. We would be able to increase our comprehension and knowledge of the mystery of God. Young people, have we found full assurance as we grow in our knowledge of God?

Understanding The Mystery Of God

“To the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ”
Colossians 2:2

The word “mystery” in the Greek means a hidden truth that was once unknown but now has been revealed to mankind. Paul encouraged the Colossians and others to go towards a deep and experiential knowledge of the mystery of God. People through the centuries have found it hard to understand God as a holy Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. This mystery of God with regard to the Father and His Son has been revealed through the Lord Jesus. The Son of God came to earth to declare Him (John 1:18). When we see the Lord Jesus, we are actually beholding God in person. This mystery of God was revealed through the Lord Jesus and expounded further by Paul the Apostle. Some of the truths concerning the Lord Jesus taught by Paul were:

  1. Christ is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).
  2. He created all things in heaven and earth (Colossians 1:16).
  3. He is before all things (Colossians 1:17).
  4. Within Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9).
  5. He is head over all principality and power (Colossians 2:10).
  6. He makes us complete in Him (Colossians 2:10).

It brings joy to the heart when we are able to discern between God and the Lord Jesus. With this knowledge of both God and the Lord Jesus, there comes full assurance.

Seeking Wisdom And Knowledge In Christ

“In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Colossians 2:3

The word “treasures” in the Greek is where we derived the English word “Thesaurus”. Paul also noted that within the Lord Jesus is hidden wisdom and knowledge. Paul explained how Christ is the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24). This wisdom in Christ is revealed to us today through the Spirit of God and through the comparing of spiritual things, i.e. Scriptures (1 Corinthians 2:13). Paul also challenged the Colossians to dwell richly on the words of Christ till there comes fullness of wisdom (Colossians 3:16). Young people, let’s seek to pray for the Spirit of God to open our understanding as we seek to dwell on His word and to study it well. May we seek to discover the great wisdom and knowledge that is in Christ!
