“Are You A Disciple Of Jesus?”

This is a vital question for all true Christians to consider. The Lord Jesus commanded the disciples to not just preach the gospel to the nations but to also make disciples of them. (Matthew 28:19). In other words, discipleship should be the next logical step after we have received salvation. Very often, people tend to conveniently think that it suffices just to be saved. There is no apparent need to do more. How dangerously wrong they are! If we truly regard Jesus as our Lord, then we will naturally seek to be His disciples.

The Example Of Timothy In Being A Disciple

Timothy was an excellent example of what it meant to be a disciple of Jesus.

1. Having Genuine Faith

“When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you”
2 Timothy 1:5

Timothy, firstly, had genuine faith in Jesus. His faith was unhypocritical. Paul was able to recall how Timothy’s faith was real and special. Before we can be discipled, we must ensure that we have true faith in Jesus. Young people, are you sure that your faith is genuine?

2. Being A Good Learner

“And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy”
Acts 16:1

The word “disciple” means a learner. Timothy was committed to the process of learning. He was indeed a good student of the Lord’s ways. He was specially identified by Luke as an outstanding disciple. Young people, let’s also learn to follow the example of Timothy.

3. Learning To Have A Good Reputation

“He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium.”
Acts. 16:2

Christians from Lystra and Iconium saw Timothy as a disciple with a good reputation. He was well spoken of. Timothy must have learnt to cultivate expressions of good character and diligent service. He had earned himself a good name.

4. Willingness To Submit To Leaders

“Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him”
Acts 16:3

Paul wanted to disciple Timothy further. He knew that Timothy had to be circumcised in order to minister among the Jews. He was willing to submit to Paul’s guidance. Young people, let’s also learn to submit to the teachings of good leaders and pastors. Let’s make time to learn what it means to be disciples of the Lord at our family camp 2006. This Saturday, we would be having a special pre-family camp meeting at 3:00 pm. Let’s seek to come and be encouraged to be good disciples of Jesus.
