The Challenge Of Setting Our Hearts On All Of God’s Word

What do we set our hearts on in life? Sometimes, we can be caught up with so many urgent distractions and unnecessary endeavours that we forget what is most important in life. The prophet Moses, after writing the whole book of Deuteronomy summed up on what was most vital to the people.

“And he said to them: “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe – all the words of this law.'”
Deuteronomy 32:46

He challenged the people to fix their hearts on all the words that he had taught. The people were meant to have hearts that would love deeply the word of God. Their love and understanding of His word was not just on some portions of Scripture but on all of it. They were meant to understand and cherish them all. They were meant to observe and obey the words of God. Young people, are we also setting our hearts on all the words of God? Let’s make this an important priority in our lives.

Compelling Reasons To Set Our Hearts On God’s Word

Why should we set our hearts on the word of God?

1. Because It Is Not A Useless Thing

“For it is not a futile thing for you”
Deuteronomy 32:47

Setting our heart on the word of God and passing it on to the next generation is not a waste of energy. No futility will come out of this. It is worth every effort.

2. Because It Brings Quality Of Life

“Because it is your life”
Deuteronomy 32:47

When we set our heart on the word of God, we will find tremendous life. There would come quality of life. We would experience a wonderful and joyous life. Our lives depend greatly on the living word.

3. Because It Brings Preservation Of Life

“And by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”
Deuteronomy 32:47

When we observe the word of God, there will come the prolonging of our lives according to His will. When the word of God guides us and we follow after it, the Lord will preserve and bless our lives.

May these reasons truly compel us to set our hearts on keeping the word of God diligently.
