Thanking God For Potential Full Time Servants Of God

As we begin the New Year, let’s rejoice in the Lord that others have risen to the call to serve Him. We are thankful to see Ben Chong and Ben Quah taking up the challenge to become trained as full time servants of God. At DML 2015, they spoke with purpose and conviction concerning their reasons to serve the Lord. May our own heart be challenged to move towards the next level in our walk with God. Let’s pray that 2015 will see us make more spiritual progress. Let’s seek to set some goals that would help us grow further.

Two Important Goals For The New Year

1. Deepening Our Knowledge Of The Lord Jesus

“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings”
Philippians 3:10

This verse was written in such a way that there was tremendous purpose expressed. Paul had a high sense of purpose as he sought to live out his life and fulfil his ministry. He determined to know the Lord Jesus in a deeper way. Paul was willing to set aside all his formal Jewish credentials as a Pharisee so that he may gain the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus as his Lord. He sought to know the Lord Jesus in three ways; to know personally the Lord Jesus, to discover the matchless dynamic power of God that raised Him from the dead in our life and to identify with Him in His suffering as he went through the difficulties of life. There are deeper levels of knowledge of the Lord Jesus and His power that we have yet to discover. Paul also wrote in the text of Ephesians 1:18-20, that we are to pray for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to enlighten our spiritual eyes. The Spirit of God will help us know what is the exceeding greatness of His power towards us who believe. This is according to the power that raised Jesus from the dead. Young people, as we enter into the New Year, let’s seek to have a tremendous sense of purpose in discovering and knowing in a greater way the Lord Jesus and the power of God in our life. We do not need to have lives that are powerless. Do plan to come for YPG as it would be starting again this Saturday. Let’s pray for the Spirit of God to enable us to understand the Lord and experience His exceeding power this year.

2. Focusing On Stretching Ourselves In Life And Ministry

“But one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14

Last year, we have been studying about moving towards the prize of the upward call of God. Every year should see us making further progress in our life and ministry. Paul exemplified what it means to be a servant of God who was fully determined to reach the goal of the prize of the upward call that the Lord Jesus had graciously purposed for him. Paul achieved this by focusing his whole life toward this goal. He was singled-minded in this endeavour. He sought to forget all that he had gained in his life and to stretch himself towards winning the prize. The phrase “reaching forward” has the idea of stretching oneself. He worked even harder and extended himself that he may serve the Lord well. Paul wrote in the text of 2 Timothy 4:7-8 that he fought the good fight against falsehood, ran and finished the race of life well and kept the faith! This was how he stretched himself towards this goal. And he knew that there was a crown of righteousness that was laid up for him by the Lord, the righteous judge. Paul indeed reached his goal. Young people, let’s stretch ourselves more for the Lord this year that we may indeed press toward the goal of the prize of the upward call of God.
