Learning Is Never An Easy Process

Do you sometimes become frustrated with our inability to learn from the Lord? Most of us could say that we have had our own set of “hiccups” when it comes to learning well from the word of God. How many times have we forgotten what we have listened from the pulpit? Countless! How many times have we come across a lesson that we have been taught before and yet we have not really practised it? Scores! Learning is never an easy process and yet, we must not be discouraged. We must endeavour to keep learning.
How can we go about doing this?

1. Learning Along The Way

“For with stammering lips and another tongue
He will speak to this people.”

Isaiah 28:11

As we learn from the word of God, truths may be new to us. The tendency is for us to struggle with these new truths, so much so that we stammer over how to explain it. We just have to keep learning along the way, even though we may find it hard to digest.

2. Learning Repeatedly

“Precept upon precept”
Isaiah 28:10, 13

Sometimes, we have to learn a truth from the Lord repeatedly. It can be noted that the above phrase was repeated four times in the text of Isaiah 28. The Lord has to teach us again and again before we are able to internalise and practise truths.

3. Learning The Hard Way

“That they might go and fall backward, and be broken
And snared and caught”

Isaiah 28:13

Learning a truth well sometimes requires us to learn it the hard way. When we do not seek to learn things the easy way, it is only through the school of hard knocks that we learn those lessons best. It is in moments like these that we may feel broken and ashamed.

Results From Learning Well

“To whom He said, ‘This is the rest with which
You may cause the weary to rest,’
And ‘This is the refreshing'”

Isaiah 28:12

Let’s not be weary in our endeavours to learn from the Lord. When we are able to learn well, there will come definite results. We will be able to find rest for our souls. The weary hearted will be deeply refreshed by the truth that they find. Young people, let’s seek to learn well from God that our spirits may find revival and strength.
