Following The Example Of The Lord Jesus In Prayer

Young people, do you take time to pray each day? Sometimes, we can be so busy with school work and exams that we do not have time to pray. In fact, the whole day can just go by without us making time to commune with our Father in heaven. Prayer should be so much more a vital part of our daily life. Prayer was an outstanding feature in the example of the Lord Jesus. He saw the great need to pray each day. No matter how busy or how tired He was, He would always make time for prayer. In the text of Mark 1:32-38, at dusk, there were many people that the Lord Jesus still had to minister to. He must have slept late that night. Yet he rose up early to pray. What a great example!

The Practice Of Seeking The Lord Each Morning

How can we go about practicing prayer as Jesus did?

1. Disciplining Ourselves To Start The Day With God

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight”
Mark 1:35

The Lord Jesus demonstrated discipline in His life in getting up early in the morning to be with God. He planned to get up a long while before daylight so that He could spend much time with God in prayer. He did not want to hurry through prayer. It had become a habit of His life to be with God in the morning. Let’s also learn to make time to be with God each morning. Let’s not hurry through prayer.

2. Determining To Be Still Before God

“He went out and departed to a solitary place”
Mark 1:35

The Lord Jesus took time to go to a deserted place to be alone with God. He wanted to be at a place where He would not be distracted by the demands of ministry. He wanted to find solitude and to be still before His Father in heaven. It was during these quiet times that He would hear His Father speak to Him. Let’s also find this stillness with God.

3. Driven To Pray With A Sense Of Purpose

“And there He prayed.”
Mark 1:35

The Lord Jesus was driven to pray because there were needs that He had to bring before God. Ministry was most demanding. He needed to ask God for guidance and grace to face the challenges of the day. He lifted up His eyes to heaven because He knew that prayer would make a big difference for His day. Young people, let’s also be driven to pray so much more. Prayer makes all the difference.
