REACHING OUT DURING CHINESE NEW YEAR

More Than Just A Time Of Celebration

Chinese New Year is more than just a time of celebration. Yes, it is a time where we must seek to show honour and respect our parents and grandparents… a time of collecting Ang Pows (let’s hope that your Ang Pow collection would not be too greatly affected by the world economic turmoil) and a time of eating good food. And yet, more than these, it is also a good time to reach out to our non-believing relatives and friends. With each Chinese New Year, I look forward to having opportunities to share the word and be a blessing to people during this festive season.

Praying For Opportunities To Share The Word

“Meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.”
Colossians 4:3-4

Opportunities to share the word have to be prayed for. Paul challenged the Colossian Church to continue earnestly in prayer and be diligent in it. As part of their prayer life, he encouraged them to pray for him and his team that God would open “doors” for them to share the gospel. Even though Paul was in chains, he was still concerned about speaking the wonderful things of Christ. Young people, do we have wonderful things to share about the Lord Jesus? Let’s pray for each other that we may have the opportunity to share the gospel to our non-Christian relatives and friends.

Sharing Wise And Gracious Words

“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
Colossians 4:6

How should we share the gospel when we have the opportunity? Let’s be wise in how we use these open “doors”. Let’s not be too quick to answer questions without much thought put in. Our challenge is to speak words of grace to non-believers. Let’s be as gracious as possible as we share about the mysteries of Christ. Our words should also be seasoned with salt. Salt was used in the preparation of food to give it a distinct taste. Even so, our words spoken should be one of worth and distinctiveness. Let’s seek to be skilled in how we answer questions about our faith.

Inviting Our Family And Friends For Our CNY Celebrations

This Saturday, 9th February 2008, we will be having a combined fellowship group Chinese New Year celebration. The meeting is at 3 pm and it is going to be a great time of coming together to praise the Lord. Let’s take this opportunity to invite our family and friends for this joyful occasion. It will be a good time for non-believers to see how we as Christians celebrate Chinese New Year. It will also be a great opportunity for them to listen to the gospel of Christ and to hear about our faith in God. Young people, let’s not allow this chance to pass us by. Let’s spare no effort in bringing our relatives and friends to Church for this special occasion.
