HAVING A HEART OF GREATER JOY AND THANKSGIVING TO THE LORD

One of the things that we should cultivate more in life is to have a heart of joy and thanksgiving. Instead of complaining, it is good for us to praise the Lord with a greater sense of joy and to be thankful to Him.

Psalm 100 is a psalm of much joy and thanksgiving. It is a call for all people from different lands to come before the LORD, to worship Him and to relate to Him with joy. The Psalmist took time to think and ponder over things that brought joy to his heart. There were special things about God that he could give thanks to Him for. The Psalmist had a grateful heart as he sought to appreciate the Lord in a special way.

APPRECIATING THE LORD GOD IN A SPECIAL WAY

“Know that the LORD, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves”
Psalm 100:3

1. HAVING A PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

One of the most wonderful reasons to rejoice in is that we have this great privilege of knowing God. The Psalmist made a call to all to know Him in a deeper way. God is knowable. We can have a knowledge of God that is personal and real. Who are we that God wants us to know Him!

A. HE IS TRULY A GREAT GOD

The LORD God is truly a great God. There is no one like Him. He is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. He is high above all things and persons.

B. HE IS OUR CREATOR

The LORD is also our all-powerful Creator. We certainly did not create ourselves nor did we evolve from apes. All of us are wonderfully made in His image by Him. We can be certain that He is our awesome Creator and we are His beloved creation.

2. HAVING A PRECIOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

“We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”
Psalm 100:3

A. WE ARE HIS PEOPLE

Another reason to be thankful to God for is that we can have a precious relationship with Him. He wants to relate to us as our covenantal God and we as His people. There can be a close and personal relationship with Him as our LORD. We can lovingly draw near to Him.

B. WE ARE THE SHEEP OF HIS PASTURES

He is also our Shepherd and we are His sheep. He will lead us in His pastures, provide for our needs and protect us. We can have a shepherd and sheep relationship with God. This is indeed precious!

RESPONSES OF JOY AND THANKSGIVING TO OUR GREAT GOD

As we appreciate the Lord for who He is and what He has done, there should come a sense of gratefulness to Him. We can respond to Him with joyous praise and thanksgiving in our hearts.

1. PRAISING AND SINGING TO THE LORD JOYFULLY (PSALM 100:1, 2)

We are to seek to praise the Lord and to sing exuberantly to Him with much joy.

2. SERVING THE LORD WITH GLADNESS IN OUR HEART (PSALM 100:2)

We can serve Him with a special sense of gladness in our hearts. In whatever area we are serving in, whether it is cleaning the Church or serving at Youth Worship, let’s do it with gladness in our hearts.
