Are You Bearing The Fruit Of Love?

The kind of faith we possess corresponds with the kind of fruit we bear in our life. If we do not bear the fruit of love, it is most probably an indication that we may not have genuine faith in the Lord Jesus. If we do bear fruit, it will be clearly seen by all.

“Which has come to you, as it has also in all the world and is bringing forth fruit”
Colossians 1:6

Fruit bearing among Christians with genuine faith is a natural and universal thing. As born again Christians all over the world bore fruit, even so the Colossian Church had such evidences in their life. Young people, is there the fruit of love in your life? Let’s seek to ensure that we do have.

The Aspects Of Bearing The Fruit Of Love

There are three aspects of bearing the fruit of love that we want to consider.

1. Hope From The Gospel As The Basis Of Fruit Bearing

“Because of the hope which is laid in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel”
Colossians 1:5

Paul attributed the fruit of love to the hope that the Colossians found when they heard the word of truth of the gospel. As they found this great sense of hope in going to heaven, there came also a love for people. They heard, understood and experienced the great grace of God from the gospel. It was having this deep sense of hope in heaven that produced a heart of love for people.

2. Faith In The Lord Jesus Brings About The Quantity Of Fruit Bearing

“Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints”
Colossians 1:4

Faith in the Lord Jesus determined the quantity of love that the Colossians had for other fellow Christians. Their love for the saints was extensive. Their heart of love for people was most inclusive. They had love for all the saints. Young people, let’s seek to exercise faith in our Lord Jesus and have a stronger love for people. Let’s be more inclusive in how we love others.

3. Guidance By The Spirit Of God Brings About The Quality Of Fruit Bearing

“Who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.”
Colossians 1:8

Epaphras was able to notice the Spirit producing the quality of fruit in the life and ministry of the Colossians. He must have been able to see the fruit of love expressed in being longsuffering, gentle, faithful and kind to others. The Spirit of God guided the Colossians in manifesting the fruit of love. Let’s also seek to have the fruit of the Spirit in our life.

Giving Thanks For The Evidences Of Fruit Bearing

“We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you”
Colossians 1:3

Paul and company continually gave thanks to the God and Father of their Lord Jesus Christ because of the grace given to them and the Colossians. They were able to see evidences of true salvation through fruit bearing. Let’s check whether we too have the fruit of love in our life. Let’s seek to give thanks to God when we truly see evidences of genuine faith in our life and in the life of others.
