An Astounding Fact Of Oneness

Oneness is vital to any Church. In order for a Church to be successful in ministry, there must be this sense of harmony. In the text of Acts 4:32, we read of this unity.

“Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul”
Acts 4:32

The Jerusalem Church had a tremendous sense of oneness. They were of one heart and one soul. There was a depth of oneness that was based on genuine faith in the Lord. The Church had started with 120 disciples and went on to having more than 5000 men. The number of people in the Church makes the fact of unity that much more astounding. As a Church, we must cultivate this oneness too.

Cultivating This Special Sense Of Oneness Among Ourselves

How can we practise this special sense of oneness?

1. Seeking The Grace Of God

“And great grace was upon them all.”
Acts 4:33

The early Church depended very much on the grace of the Lord. God’s great grace was upon them. It was the grace of God that brought the Church together as one. To have oneness of heart and soul, we need the great grace of God too. It is hard for people to have the same heart and soul. It takes nothing less than the grace of God to achieve this.

2. Practising Our Faith By Caring For Others

“And they distributed to each as anyone had need.”
Acts 4:35

The Church also learned to practise their faith in practical terms. The early Church learned to give practically. They sold their possessions and gave it to the Church. To those in great need, they provided for them. Young people, we must also learn how to practise our faith. We must learn how to give with a great sense of oneness to those in need. When we learn to give towards others collectively, we build this sense of unity.

3. Drawing Encouragement From Outstanding Examples

“Now Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the Apostles… having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.”
Acts 4:36-37

Luke described for us the wonderful example of Barnabas in how he sold his land and gave the money he earned from its sale to the Church. He had a heart of love for people. He was deeply concerned for others. We may be not called upon to do the same thing today, but we can certainly learn from Barnabas on how to sacrifice much in giving. Let’s be encouraged to follow good examples that we may cultivate this oneness of heart and soul.
