RELATING TO THE LORD

The sons of Korah had expressed a deep sense of love and longing to be in the house of the Lord. They were looking forward to being with Him in His house, to sense His presence and to serve Him with joy. They had learnt to treasure what it meant to be in His house. The Lord’s blessings are on those who trust in the Lord.

BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO TRUSTS IN HIM

“O Lord of hosts,
Blessed is the man who trusts in you!”
Psalm 84:12

1. THE LORD OF HOSTS

The title “Lord of hosts” is meant to bring across the idea of God as the commander of the heavenly army of angels. This title is invoked in prayer in difficult times (Psalm 84:8). The sons of Korah were going through a challenging time where they were not able to be in the house of God. They were calling on Him for His favour.

2. THE LORD’S BLESSINGS ARE ON THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM

A. THE SONS OF KORAH ENDED THEIR PSALM ON A NOTE OF TRUST

His blessings are meant for everyone who will trust in the Lord. They were to trust fully in Him and in all that He represents. It is entrusting one’s life and future to the hand of God.

B. THE IDEA OF TRUST WOULD ALSO INCLUDE WALKING UPRIGHTLY

They were meant to walk in righteousness and in the way of the Lord.

C. WHEN PEOPLE TRUST THE LORD AND WALK UPRIGHTLY, HIS BLESSINGS WOULD BE UPON THEM

I. HE IS A SUN AND SHIELD TO THEM (PSALM 84:11)

The Lord God shines forth in all His glory and He will specially protect those who trust in Him.

II. HE WILL GIVE GRACE AND GLORY (PSALM 84:11)

He will abundantly grant His grace to those who will trust Him. He will specially bless them in all that they do and prosper the work of their hands. They will be honoured and the Lord’s glory would be seen on them.

III. NO GOOD THING WOULD HE WITHHOLD FROM THEM (PSALM 84:11)

The Lord’s grace would be reflected in all the good things that He would bless the righteous with. Those who trust in Him will be blessed with all that is good according to His will.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

1. LET’S LEARN TO TRUST IN THE LORD OF HOSTS

The Lord’s blessings are on those who trust in Him. As we come to His house each week and as we listen to His word, let’s learn to trust in Lord and He will bless us.

2. LET’S LEARN TO WALK UPRIGHTLY

Part of the idea of trusting the Lord is also to walk uprightly. Trusting in the Lord is not just something we do only when we need Him. It is reflected in the way we live for Him. We are to walk uprightly. Young people, let’s obey the Lord’s word and walk uprightly before Him. He will bless us with good things.
