GREAT GRATITUDE FOR THE LORD’S GREAT MERCY AND GRACE

One thing that Paul never forgot was how the Lord Jesus was most gracious to him. In most of his epistles, he wrote of how the Lord showed His love by saving and enabling him to serve. He would fondly remember the Lord’s great grace and mercy.

“And the grace of God was exceedingly abundant”
1 Timothy 1:14

“But I obtained mercy”
1 Timothy 1:13

The apostle Paul was deeply indebted to the Lord. Despite being such a dreadful sinner, He lovingly showed grace to him. The Lord Jesus came to earth to die for all sinners, of whom Paul considered himself as “chief”. He also gave him a second chance in life to become His servant that he may be a good example to all who were going to believe in Him and to serve Him. As he remembered the Lord’s great grace and mercy, his heart was filled with immense gratitude towards Him.

GIVING GOD ALL THE GLORY

Paul’s heart was so thankful that he could not help but give all the glory to God for what He had done in his life.

1. FOCUSING ON THE GREAT ATTRIBUTES OF GOD

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise …”
1 Timothy 1:17

Paul was deeply focused on God and God alone. He did not focus on himself.

A. THE KINGSHIP OF GOD

Paul saw the Lord’s kingship as one that is eternal. He will reign forever and ever. He wanted God to receive all the praise that was due to a divine King.

B. THE IMMORTALITY OF GOD

There is no end to the existence of the Lord God. His glorious attributes are forever. There is no end to His being. Can our great God be any lesser!

C. THE INVISIBILITY OF GOD

Although the Lord is invisible and yet we can “see” Him through His attributes and works. He can be clearly seen through His works in creation and the changes He had brought to the lives of His servants like Paul.

D. THE WISDOM OF GOD

There is no other God who is as wise as our God. The wisdom that we can gain from Him makes us far more outstanding than we realise.

2. EXTOLLING THE LORD GOD

“… Be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Timothy 1:17

No one deserves such honour as our Lord God. Paul wanted to give glory to God for all eternity. Let’s also seek to give God all the honour and glory as we deeply appreciate His mercy and grace in our life. Let’s seek to honour Him forever.
