The Greatest Source Of Joy Is Found In The Lord

What is it that brings joy to our heart? Often, it comes from the ephemeral things of life – our family, our friends, relationships, games, etc. These things are valid sources of joy. However, they are at best temporal. The greatest source of joy is found in the Lord and in His blessings. King David found a great sense of joy in the Lord.

“The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord;
And in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!”

Psalm 21:1

As a king, David could easily find many things of life to rejoice in. Yet, it is significant that he chose to rejoice greatly in the Lord and His blessings. Young people, let’s discover how to find this kind of joy in the Lord.

Rejoicing In The Blessings Of The Lord

What are the Lord’s blessings in our lives? There are many that we can rejoice in.

1. Rejoicing In The Blessing Of Strength

“The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord”
Psalm 21:1

David experienced great strength from the Lord as he fought in many wars and escaped many attempts on his life. The Lord blessed him with tremendous strength. Young people, can we also rejoice in the Lord’s strength? He has strengthened and helped us through the first half of the year. Let’s not take His strength for granted. Let’s rejoice in the Lord’s provision of strength.

2. Rejoicing In The Blessing Of Prayers Answered

“You have given him his heart’s desire,
And have not withheld the request of his lips.”

Psalm 21:2

David’s heart must have been full as he recalled how the Lord heard his many prayers. Truly, the Lord heard the request of his lips and his heart’s desires according to His will. The Lord has also heard our prayers on many occasions. Let’s rejoice that God is merciful in answering our pleas and intercessions.

3. Rejoicing In The Blessing Of Goodness

“For You meet him with the blessings of goodness”
Psalm 21:3

God had also blessed King David with many good things during his reign. The Lord had given him the honour of being king. Similarly, God has been good to us all these years. He has blessed us with good things. Let’s learn to rejoice in His goodness always.

4. Rejoicing In The Blessing Of Life

Life itself is also a great blessing.

“He asked life from You and You gave it to him –
Length of days forever and ever.”

Psalm 21:4

How very often we take our existence for granted! Each day that we can live is a gift from God. Let’s learn to be thankful that we can wake up each morning to a new day ahead. Young people, do we rejoice in the blessings that God has showered on us? We can find sustained joy if we learn to focus on the Lord and His blessings. As we rejoice, our natural response is to exalt the Lord and sing to Him.

“We will sing and praise Your power.”
Psalm 21:13

Truly, we must praise the Lord with a great sense of joy for His blessings upon our lives.
