The Prophecy Of The Powerful Reign Of The Messianic King

One day, our Lord Jesus will reign supreme on this earth. He will be a King who will be victorious over all the nations. In the text of Psalm 2, the Psalmist writes about how the nations would rage and plot to rebel against both God and His anointed Son, the Lord Jesus. They said, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.” (Psalm 2:3). These unbelieving nations have a blatant disregard for God and the Lord Jesus. They chose to be intransigent towards Their ways. Instead of appreciating Their reign of love and goodness upon all people, they saw it as bonds to be broken. God looks upon their puny attempts of rebellion from His throne and laughs. He mocks their attempts to be free from His sovereign rule. The Psalmist saw with spiritual insight that God had already decreed that His Son, Jesus, would be set as the Messianic King at Jerusalem and He would reign with glorious power on this earth in the near future. He would judge and deal with nations who rebel. His wrath would be upon them (Psalm 2:9). This would happen in the future Millennial Kingdom that Christ would establish. In the future, our Lord Jesus would be the sovereign King over all kings. This is our hope.

Appropriate Responses To The Messianic King

How should we respond to the Lord Jesus as our King?

1. Be Humble Enough To Learn

“Now therefore, be wise …
Be instructed …” 
Psalm 2:10

Since Christ will be King on this earth in the near future, it is best that we be wise and respond appropriately. Let’s not be foolish and proud. Let’s be humble enough to be instructed and to have a learning spirit. If kings are asked to be instructed in the Lord’s ways, so much more we should adhere to this.

2. Yield To Christ

“Kiss the Son, lest He be angry” 
Psalm 2:12

The phrase “Kiss the Son” means to submit to the Son of God, our regent King on earth. During the times of the Psalmist, when a king gave his right hand to his subjects, they would bow and kiss the ring on his hand. It was an expression of submission and honour. Let’s also learn to submit to our King Jesus.

3. Serve The Lord With Reverence

“Serve the Lord with fear, 
And rejoice with trembling.” 
Psalm 2:11

When we are able to yield to the Lord Jesus, we will serve Him with reverence. There comes a proper regard in how we should relate to Him and serve Him. We would specially rejoice and have the fear of the Lord in our hearts. Young people, let’s serve the Lord with the highest regard always.
