Stirred By The Testimony Of The Late Mrs Sng

If there is one person whom I admire with reference to bearing witness for the Lord, it would be the late Mrs Sng. Even though she may have had multiple health problems, she still consistently made the effort to share the gospel with non-believers. Wherever she went, she would speak of her faith in the Lord Jesus. Whether it was sitting in the bus or going from one old folk’s home to another, she was relentless in her efforts towards soul-winning work. One young person wrote and shared of how the late Mrs Sng would take the trouble to share the gospel with her late grandma even though she was suffering from backaches. I thank God for His grace that I saw in the late Mrs Sng in doing the Lord’s work. She was faithful in reaching the lost. Personally, I am stirred by her example and her zeal in doing the works of God.

Doing The Works Of The Lord

What was it that drove the late Mrs Sng to bear witness for God week after week? She was deeply touched by the words of the Lord Jesus.

“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.”
John 9:4

This was how the Lord Jesus went about doing His Father’s work.

1. Being Under Great Compulsion To Do God’s Work

The word “must” in the Greek means “to be under great compulsion to do something”. The person referred to is bounded by tremendous obligation or duty to do what he has to do. He cannot help but do what is necessary. The Lord Jesus was specially sent by God to do the work of saving the lost. He was meant to be the light of the world. He was under great compulsion to do God’s work.

2. Having A Great Sense Of Urgency To Do God’s Work

The Lord Jesus also recognised that He had a limited time to do His Father’s works. Farmers could only work doing the day when there is light. When night falls, they have to stop work. “Day” is seen by Jesus as the time that He had on this earth. Young people, let’s not think that we have an indefinite time in this world. Let’s do the Lord’s work while we still can. A time will come when we cannot work anymore. I am sure the late Mrs Sng felt these things as she fervently bore witness for Christ.

The Challenge To Do His Works During Easter Time

Next week is Easter. Let’s also be challenged to follow the example of the Lord Jesus in doing God’s work. Let’s invite our family members and friends to come for the Easter concert and lunch. Let’s bear witness for the Lord while we still are able to. If we are involved in the Easter concerts, let’s spare no effort in doing our best. Let’s pray that the Lord will speak to many hearts during this Easter time.
