“I DELIGHT TO DO YOUR WILL”

Discovery Of The Will Of God

Doing the will of God is an endeavour that we should be committed to as servants of God. The epitome of one who does the will of God is our Lord Jesus Christ. In the text of Psalm 40, David wrote prophetically of how Jesus would come into this world and subject Himself to God’s perfect will. The first thing that God would do was to open His understanding concerning this.

“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;
My ears You have opened.

Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.”

Psalm 40:6

The Lord would open His ears to hear His voice morning by morning and to reveal new truths to Him. He would reveal that sacrificial rituals and offerings were not things that He was really looking for. Instead, He was looking for lives fully committed to doing His will.

Total Dedication To The Will Of God

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.'”

Psalm 40:7

The Scriptures contain God’s will with reference to what Jesus would do on this earth. The Lord Jesus spoke of how He specially came and offered His life to fulfilling all that the Father had willed Him to do. There would be total dedication and commitment to doing His will. Young people, can we also learn from the example of the Lord Jesus in being totally dedicated to doing God’s will? Let’s pray that we may know His will well and be challenged to do it with obedience.

Delighting To Do The Will Of God

“I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is within my heart.”

Psalm 40:8

The Lord Jesus would find great delight in doing the will of His Father. The Lord Jesus had a special bond and relationship with God as Lord and Father. He memorised the word of God until it was embedded in His heart. There was a deep sense of joy in having God’s word abiding in His heart and in seeking to fulfil it. The Lord Jesus spoke of how it was His food to do the will of God and to finish it, even if it meant suffering for the world. Because of His death and resurrection, He brought about the New Covenant for us (Hebrews 10:9).

Declaring Unashamedly The Good News Of God’s Righteousness

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly;

Indeed, I do not restrain my lips,

O Lord, You Yourself know.”

Psalm 40:9

One of the things that the Lord Jesus was meant to do was to declare the good news of God to others. He was to be committed to sharing His faith with others in the great assembly. He did this and more when it came to preaching about the gospel. He did not restrain His lips. This Chinese New Year period is a good opportunity for us to share our faith with friends and relatives. Let’s seek to bring our loved ones and friends for Bethany’s Chinese New Year special this Saturday. Let’s seek to proclaim to them the good news of God’s faithfulness and lovingkindness. Let’s not be ashamed of the good news of God. Let’s not restrain our lips from speaking of the Lord’s great salvation.
