Paul’s Example Of Defending His Faith

In this day and age, the faith of our Lord Jesus continues to be attacked. While false teachers persist to deviate from the truth, atheists have sought to discredit and oppose the validity of having faith in Christ. The challenge for us is to never back down but to make a bold defence against them. The person who was an excellent defender of the faith was the apostle Paul.

“Brethren and fathers, hear my defence before you now.”
Acts 22:1

The word “defence” in the Greek is where we get the English word “apologetics”. Paul was going to give a verbal defence of his faith. He employed reasoning with his audience. He also used his life as a testimony of the work of the Lord Jesus. He delivered a strong defence of his faith to the people. Young people, do you know how to give a good defence of your faith to the people who may ask about it? We must seek to do so. Let’s learn how we may defend our faith well.

The Manner Of Paul’s Defence

What is the manner by which we can give a good defence of our faith?

1. Holding Oneself Well

The way Paul held himself as a servant of God was crucial. When he was arrested and brought to the barracks, he asked whether it was permitted for him to speak to the commander. He was cultured and well-refined as a person. Young people, we also need to learn to hold ourselves well before others. It makes all the difference as we share our faith with non-believers.

2. Having A Courageous Spirit

Paul also had a courageous spirit before all the people. These Jews had just attacked him in the text of Acts 21:31-32. Yet, he was not afraid to speak of his faith to them. He pleaded with the commander to let him speak to these Jews. Truly, he was bound in his spirit to testify of his faith in Jerusalem (Acts 20:22). He was not going to allow anything to stop him Young people, we too must have the faith and courage to speak for the Lord.

3. Having A Humble Spirit

There was also such a great spirit of humility before the people. He called those who wanted to kill him brethren and fathers. There was no anger or spite against them. He only wanted them to know the Lord Jesus. What great humility in reaching out to the lost!

Plan To Come For Youth Conference 2014

The above are just three aspects of how we can defend our faith before others. There is so much more that we can learn and understand with regards to defending our faith. Please do plan to come for Youth Conference 2014 and seek to learn well. Let’s pray that we may become good defenders of the faith like the apostle Paul.
