The Problem Of Struggling With Weariness

Are you feeling tired and weary? We often struggle with weariness when the days are stressful and long. When there are so many things to get done, it is easy to feel drained. Another reason why we may feel weary is when we have a defective view of God. In the text of Isaiah 40, the prophet Isaiah wrote about the future blessings and restoration that would come to Israel after the Babylonian exile. While the Israelites were in exile, they struggled with an erroneous view of God and began to doubt.

“Why do you say, O Jacob,
And speak, O Israel:
‘My way is hidden from the Lord,
And my just claim is passed over by my God’?”

Isaiah 40:27

They claimed that their ways were hidden from the Lord. God was not responding to their so-called “just claims”. The people doubted the Lord and complained about this. When they did this, they were deeply overwhelmed by what they faced. Even the young men would faint and be weary (Isaiah 40:30). Young people, sometimes, our own defective views of God and doubts can affect both our physical and spiritual strength. It is times like this that we struggle with weariness.

The Re-Discovery Of An All-Powerful God

“Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.”

Isaiah 40:28

The people of Israel had to rediscover God for who He really is. Isaiah had to jog their memories with regard to what they had heard and known of God in the past. They had forgotten how great and almighty this God is. This everlasting God who is the creator of everything on this earth is one who is continuously powerful, never stops working and is in absolute control of everything. The way He plans and does things is beyond what we can understand. This, of course, includes all the challenges that come into our lives. He is the Lord over all things. Let’s re-discover this eternal, all-powerful and all-wise Lord and engage greater faith in Him.

The Assurance That God Will Empower Us

“He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.”

Isaiah 40:29

Our hearts should be assured that God will make His power available to us. How will this power work in us? We have to first use up our own physical strength. The Lord had already imbued us with strength since birth. His power will not work within us if we do not use our own strength. After we have used our own strength, and as we depend and wait on Him, He will make His power available to us. When we pray for this divine strength, it will come from God. When we read His word and act in faith in His promises, the Lord will release His power. Let’s seek to have this assurance and trust that God will give power to the weak.
